I was pretty stoked when Christmas Eve came. I felt like a little kid again, as I tore open all the presents that sat underneath the tree. I received two great gifts this year...besides the early Christmas present that Mike gave me. The first box I opened contained a pink and brown (my two favourite colours) Coach hat. The next gift I received were all four books of the Twilight series.
This year at work, I opted not to participate in the gift giving exchange. It's not that I'm not into Christmas, I'm just not bloody interested in celebrating it with the people that I work with at the office. I know it's the season of giving, but I just can't, not when I can see through them and I can see how fake they are.
So when the boss's wife asked why I didn't want to participate, I told her that I wasn't participating because of commercialism. I told her that if I was going to participate, the item would be homemade or handmade. She said that was a good idea and I went ahead and joined. It was going to be easy since I was baking cookies for the season anyway, I can just give a batch to the person that I'm going to get.
Unfortunately, an annoying co-worker of mine rigged the Secret Santa name picking so that I'll get her instead of someone else. She wanted me to make her an Amigurumi Giraffe (which by the way she's been hinting on that I make her since she saw me looking through my pattern book). First of all, I have no time since I have finals to attend to and other Christmas presents to make. This secret santa thing has a time limit as well.
But to make the long story short, I made the giraffe and never brought another pattern book to work to look at during lunch. I wasn't going to make the same mistake again.
Let's just say Christmas is fast approaching and I think I have four more projects to complete. I've finished Tracy's scarf, my Mum's hat, Raven's Hello Kitty Scarf, and Himself's rolly polly hamster. Since it's Finals week, I doubt I'll be able to finish Crystal, Ollie, and Sandy's giraffe. I am however, will be optimistic.
It seems as though every December, I manage to make myself even busier than usual. I don't knit as much in the winter season, which some people find odd since it is the season that one must knit. Of course, I knit plenty during the late winter, around February and during the spring so that my projects or even Christmas gifts are finished by the beginning of autumn. So, without the heavy burden of trying to finish projects, I'm enjoying the December month as always.
As I looked at my schedule on the Crackberry (aka Blackberry), I found that every weekend before Christmas was fully booked. I normally make my Christmas cookies around the second week of December, but alas, the Scuba portion of my life does not allow to do so this year.
Therefore, I was reduced to making cookies this past weekend. I couldn't believe my kitchen after my tornado filled weekend. I was covered from head to toe in frosting, flour, food colouring, and marzipan clay. But it was all well worth it. The cookies were a hit and for Mike, he couldn't quite eat them since "they were so cute."
Last year, with all the parties I've been to and all the cocktails drank in the month of December, I decided to revise the song, Twelve Days of Christmas into an alcoholi style. After cleaning out my hard drive, I found the newly invented lyrics. Here it is (thank goodness for the cut and paste).
