It's the fall season and it's starting to get cold. It finally gives me the excuse to fire up my double ovens. I'm also excited to take all of my winter clothes out. All the scarves, sweaters, gloves, hats, etc. I'm totally in my element.
After putting some gruelling hours in Scuba at Sport Chalet this morning, I've got a hankering for some good sushi and since the Japanese Grocery store is close to my house, we stopped by to get some stuff for a Japanese Food Night.
Lately it seems that I've been on a cupcake craze. I wanted to make cupcakes all the time, but the truth of the matter is that it is winter and I can fire up my double ovens whenever I want.
After catering at a golf tournament all day today, Mike and I came home really hungry. Sadly, he was craving hamburgers.
Every year during the month of September, we throw Alice a birthday party or a birthday dinner at my house. Every year, I bake a cake and every year it's different. This year, I've deiced to make her a raspberry torte.
There have been some complains in my family that there's knitting projects everywhere around the house. It's supposedly contained in my office, but it's managed to escape into the living room, my bedroom, the kitchen, and the spare bedroom. An in all honesty, I don't even know how much yarn I have, even with Ravelry's help.
I figured, to keep the peace in my household, I've decided to knit so much that it will cause "knitter's elbow" (if that even exists). There I was, holed up in my office trying to come up with patterns to crochet or knit. There were so many skeins of Lily Sugar and Cream yarn, but I couldn't help it. It was so nice, soft, and perfect to make amigurumi animals from my Japanese amigurumi pattern books that I purchased from Etsy and Kinokuniya Bookstores (another addiction). Then it hit me, why not make amigurumi fruits? Hmmm. it was worth a shot. I made a strawberry amigurumi last year and maybe if I expanded, I would end up with something that can bust my stash. I crocheted so much in that my wrists hurt. Well, actually, they didn't hurt at first, but a couple of days later, I was experiencing DOKMS...Delayed Onset Knitter's Muscle Soreness. No, DOKMS doesn't exist in the medical dictionary...not yet at least.
The patterns and actual toys will be on sale at my etsy shop www.deebunny77.etsy.com
The second thing that I'm excited about is that after cleaning up Mike's computer (which I was using to do some graphic illustrations a while back), I found some of of my drawings. I want to give many thanks to dearbarbz. She posted her illustrations on her blog and so I think I will do the same...
This first illustration is a 5x7 drawing....
As you can see, the illustration is quite small and the I've added a calendar on the top left hand corner of the drawing.
Since I was cleaning up like crazy on Friday and Saturday, I found these awesome magnets that my mum bought me when I visited her in San Francisco... I think I may start an amigurumi series on these as well...
I was going over my stash and found some Lily Sugar and Cream left over yarn. It gave me an idea of making a cozy for my iPod Touch since it ends up in my everyday bag. Despite the fact that the iTouch already has a protective case to it, I decided to make one for it for more protection.
I wasn't sure how the pattern was going to turn out, but I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. It's a simple pattern, but I added my artistic flair to it....
My Favourite food...(makes any bad day at work better!)
Mike and I had dinner with one of our friends at the Melting Pot earlier tonight. It was a first time we're tried the restaurant and it was absolutely good. They start you off with hors d'douvres fondue composed of your choice of cheese that varied from Fiesta Cheese Fondue to Spinach & Artichoke Swiss. They serve the cheese with tortilla chips, green apple wedges, bread, and veggies. You get your choice of salad. And for the main course, you can pick from a variety of entrees and the cooking style. You can deep fry it or cook it in a broth. Mike and I cooked our meats in Mojo Style whilst Jan and Rick had theirs deep-fried. For dessert, you pick the type of chocolate you would like. I chose the Yin and Yang (Dark and White chocolate) and they serve it with rice krispies treats, cheese cake, bananas, marshmallows, etc. Our check ended up over $200 since we ordered 3 cocktails at $10.00 a piece. The price per person is about $50. It is a little expensive, but you get a lot of food and it is worth it. I was so full at the end of the meal.
I love strawberries.
On the way home from teaching Scuba Diving in Monterey, I passed by this little vegetable/fruit market and bought some strawberries and gigantic artichokes.
Now back to the strawberries...I bought so much that I had to make these....
The strawberries are a good way to make myself feel better after whacking my knee on the bathroom counter and ending up with a bruise that looks like the size of Texas!
After a long exhausting day full of exams and of course, let's not forget getting my exam back from chemistry and completely failing it, I needed some good food and some good company. I wanted pizza.
I'm really not much of a meat eater. Well, actually, I don't do beef that often. Only when I'm craving for a cheeseburger is when I'll eat beef. I'm more of a chicken and fish kind of person. We ended up at Roma's Pizza on Franklin Blvd. We haven't been there in a while since I love making my own pizza. My own dough (non of that store bought stuff) and my own sauce.
When we arrived and had our menus, everyone wanted to order the Roma's Special. Geez! It's all beef with barely vegetables. I wanted a vegetarian pizza. When I finally glanced at the vegetarian pizza, it was just olives, onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. I was okay with that. We ordered a medium. It was delicious.
When we all finally got to my house, we stood outside for a moment trying to find my keys. I have a very large purse and keys somewhat get buried underneath all the crap that I cart around. I swear, my purse can double as a weapon. I always carry it as if I'm ready to hit someone with it whenever I'm walking to my car alone. I don't need pepper spray. All I need is my purse and a really good swing. It weighed a ton, so there will be some major head trauma on my attacker.
You can see just how big my purse is....But wait until you look inside...
There's my make-up kit, my dinosaur of a blackberry, keys, lotion, gum, wallet, two small notebooks, a novel, gum, ipod touch, nail file, camera, tissue, and sometimes my knitting, a bottle of water, magazine, and some snacks goes in it as well. My dad once asked why I cart so much junk around....I couldn't tell him why.
