We're here. It was an easy ride going through Jamaican customs and the Sandals Resort had a hospitality room at the airport. Coffee, sodas, and beer was served. Since we arrived at 6:45 in the morning, I couldn't believe that some of my friends were actually "chugging" the free beer. I was mortified as they justified that somewhere in the world, it's five o'clock or at least after noon. One of them even asked me what time was it in my hometown. I told them it was 12:45 (just count the number of hours from Jamaica to my hometown and you'll figure it out). They cheered and drank more beer.
It seems like it was just last year that we've decided to go to Jamaica, but now it seems like I don't have enough time to purchase some warm weather essentials for my trip such as shorts and strappy blouses as well as luggage large enough to hold all my clothes, shoes, and the shopping that I'll be doing when I get there. We have ten days!
I love taking mini holidays. It keeps my sanity in check, especially since my part time job involves quite a few people that tests my sanity two days a week. Some of my close friends once asked me why I stay at the job when my design business has taken off. I have one simple response, it's a way to make extra money. Hey, what's a few extra dollars to spend on whatever it is I want? Besides, since I decided to return to school and the sluggish economy, my workload declined rapidly. Being a small business owner really has its disadvantages especially in this economy. So, I'm going through somewhat of a career change. I've decided to become a nurse. It's stable.
Really! My family decided to take a holiday to the Floriday Keys for a few days of scuba diving. It was really crazy when we arrived and rented a car in Miami to drive an hour and a half to the Keys. Florida started out with this sign. This makes me want to jump in the water....NOT!
I'd have to say that the diving was fantastic despite the fact that the waves and surge were ranging from 3-5 feet. There was no doubt that I've invented a new shade of green. Note to self: Stick to an american muffin and earl grey tea for breakfast rather than a buffet breakfast of sausage, eggs, and pancakes.
I love going home to San Francisco especially during the Christmas season. I missed shoping downtown, sipping a cup of hot tea whilst watching other shoppers pass me by.
I love taking mini-holidays. It gives me a chance to get away from the drama of it all. I can relax and have fun. I can eat as much as I want to. Of course, a mini-holiday is much better when someone else is paying for it. This is what this trip is about.
The food was excellent (although, I had to pay for it), but the rooms were free. It's in Reno, but what the heck. It also worked out for my friend Kari's advantage. Seeing that she's pregnant and ready to pop anytime soon, this might be the last holiday she has before she becomes a mum and all of her holidays will revolve around kid stuff.
After we feasted at the buffet, we all decided to hit the Circus Circus. I wanted to win this stuffed animal, but tossing the rings onto Coke bottles isn't my forte.
I kind of have a fear of heights. I get that tingly feeling in the back of my legs when I look over the balcony of a hotel that's at over ten stories high.
We took a mini holiday to Encinda, Mexico via cruise ship. All I wanted to do was party, but when the opportunity presented itself...rock climbing, I was on board, but will chicken out later on. When we arrived at the rock climbing area, I found a lot of little kids strapping up to climb that scary wall. It isn't a 10 story high building, but still, falling to one's death isn't pleasing at all (despite the multiple precautions such as ropes, etc that the workers strap you in). With my heart beating a million miles a minute, I signed up. Heck, I wasn't going to let a seven-year-old show me how to climb a rock wall. I CAN DO IT!
My hands were all clammy, my heart was beating fast when the big tall guy asked me to come forward. I almost ran from him screaming, but, the little kid (the one in the blue shirt to the left) couldn't wait to get up there. So, I told myself if that kid can do it so can I. I had the dude strap me in and then I slowly made my way towards the wall. It was scary stuff. I grapped the first holding thing (I don't know what it's called) and then grabbed the other as I hoisted myself upwards. As I continued, I felt the rush, the rush of getting up to the top, and then shooting all the way down (which is the fun part).
I made it! I made it! Another hobby to add to the list!
